Renowned cyclist Lance Armstrong will undergo surgery to repair a broken collarbone, which he injured in a fall during his comeback race in Spain this week.

The seven-time Tour de France winner was using the race in Spain to regain physical fitness after he decided to come out of retirement.

Last Tuesday evening, Armstrong updated his Tweeter account. He wrote, “At home finally. Whew. Long coupla days. Surgery at 7am tomorrow.” The 38-year-old regularly updated fans of his status in a series of Twitter messages.

He walked out of a local hospital last Monday with a sling in his arm. Armstrong said it made him feel miserable.

“I just need to relax a couple of days and then make a plan,” he mentioned.

The renowned athlete rode for Team Astana and crashed about 10 miles from the end of the first stage of the five-day Vuelta Ciclista a Castilla y Leon race.

Armstrong mentioned that he has never injured his collarbone in his 17-year career. “It’s pretty painful,” he said. “Just wait and see how it heals.”
