The IAAF has announced that it will review its false-start rule in lieu of Usain Bolt’s controversial disqualification at the world championships in South Korea.
Bolt, who holds the Olympic record for the 100-meter dash, was disqualified on Sunday for a one-strike false-start. This was the first major competition when the rule was in effect.
In a press statement, the IAAF said: “While the IAAF is, of course, disappointed that Usain Bolt false-started in the final of the 100m, it is important to remember that a sport's credibility depends on its rules, and they must also be applied consistently and fairly for ALL athletes.”
However, the IAAF representative said that its council will be meeting to discuss many things, including the newly installed false-start rule.
