Roger Federer advanced to the semifinal round of the US Open last Wednesday with a victory over Robin Soderling.

Soderling defeated Federer during the 2010 French Open quarterfinals, ending Federer’s 23 consecutive semifinal appearances in the tournament.

The US Open provided Federer an opportunity to avenge his French Open loss, and he did so brilliantly.

Federer rallied from a lack luster performance in the third set, defeating Soderling 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.

The former world number one will now face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Djokovic defeated Gael Monfils to advance.
