Roger Federer defeated 13th-seeded Jurgen Melzer, 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3, last Monday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the US Open last Monday.

In the next round, Federer will face Robin Soderling, who scored an upset against Roger during the 2010 French Open quarters.

In the women’s division, top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki defeated Maria Sharapova, 6-3, 6-4. It was Wozniacki’s first win against Sharapova.  

Wozniacki is carrying a 12-match win streak heading into the quarterfinals, where she will face Dominika Cibulkova.
