The number two seeded John Isner scored 33 aces last Wednesday to defeat Giles Muller in three sets. Isner now advances to the third round of the Atlanta Tennis Championships.
Isner is playing in his first tournament since his record-setting 11-hour match against Nicholas Mahut at the first round of 2010 Wimbledon. He eventually defeated Muller after 2 ½ hours.
Isner’s 33 aces boosted his total for the season to 705, which leads the ATP. He will face Michael Russell in the next round.
Sixth-seeded Mardy Fish also advanced to the third round by defeating Robby Ginepri. Taylor Dent, who won over Horacio Zeballos to advance, will meet Fish in the next round.
Top-seeded Andy Roddick will play his second round match on Thursday against Rajeev Ram.
