Wenger Says Champions League Wins Do Not Make A Classy Manager E-mail

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has issued a fitting retort to Chelsea boos Jose Mourinho's taunt on his inability to win the Champions League.  Mourinho had taunted Wenger by saying that the Arsenal boss was a "big example" of managers who had no Champions League trophies to speak of.

Wenger had a ready riposte to this by saying that a manager is judged by what he has accomplished in a career spanning at least 10 to 15 years.

"Plenty of managers have won the Champions League who will not be considered great managers," said Wenger. "If you would like to compare every manager, you give each one the same amount of resources and say 'you have that for five years'. After five years you see who has done the most."

Both managers are dueling with words ahead of their Carling Cup final clash at Cardiff this Sunday. Chelsea will be without skipper John Terry, but are still expected to field a strong side, while Arsenal are also expected to do the same.

Wenger said that based on the teams his side had beaten en route to the final, they should win, "People say never judge a manager or a team on a cup run because it depends who you play but in this cup competition we have played Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham so it would be a great reward for us to win it," he added.

Mourinho says that since the trophy is low on both teams' aims for the season, the Cardiff clash would be a spectacle. "It is not the main target for Chelsea, and I believe it is not the main target for Arsenal," he added. "So I believe it is a final that has conditions to be less emotional and more quality. I think it has everything to be a good final."
