Steven Pressley has agreed to an 18-month deal with Scottish
Premier League leader Celtic. In the process, Pressley rejected the chance to
move to Charlton, where he had undergone a routine medical test as well.
The 33-year-old Scotland defender left Scottish team Hearts
earlier this month citing interference by owner Vladimir Romanov in selection
matters. Since then many teams including Charlton and Celtic have been chasing
him.
Premiership strugglers Charlton looked to be the favorites
to seal the deal, but Pressley opted for Celtic. "I'm passionate about my
football, regardless of who I play for, and hopefully that commitment will
endear me to the Celtic faithful," Pressley said.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan was delighted that Pressley
would be moving to the club. "Over the last few years, he's shown himself
to be an exceptional leader and a presence on the field and in the dressing
room. I'm sure this will be a fantastic experience for him," he added.
Presley could very
well take the field against Kilmarnock on January 2, but cannot play Champions
League games, as he is cup-tied.
