Bayern Munich will agree to sell Owen Hargreaves to Manchester United, but the premier league leaders should table a bid of atleast £20 million.
Succumbing to persistent pressure from Manchester United over the last 8-10 months, Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer said that they are ready to sell Hargreaves, but he will not be available for cheap.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Beckenbauer said, "In principle, we were right to stick to our guns over Owen. If a player has signed a new contract with us, then tries to move for more money, we are within our rights to say no. But this is different and if we receive an offer on the scale that has been mentioned it is going to have to be given serious consideration."
Manchester United are believed to have offered a bid in excess of £15 million for the English midfielder. Hargreaves, who caught the eye of Ferguson following some great performances at the World Cup, has made no qualms about his desire to join Manchester United.
However having just signed a new 4-year contract at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich had no intention to sell Hargreaves to any club following the departure of German captain, Michael Ballack to Chelsea over the summer. Hargreaves sent out persistent pleadings to his club to allow him to leave Allianz Arena to United but Munich stuck to their stand.
Meanwhile United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he will be actively scouring the transfer market to boost his side's chance in a three-pronged attack for silverware this season. "We have brought a lot of players back to the club from loan spells and we are looking to maybe sign one or two in January as well. We are looking at a few things. I won't discuss any names, but we are looking at various options", he added.
