Even
as Manchester City look to bring back Shaun Wright-Phillips, manager Stuart
Pearce insisted that Chelsea had not make any move for teen sensation Micah
Richards.
It is increasingly clear that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has
to get some defensive reinforcements this January. The reason being the back
injury to skipper John Terry that has left the central defense very weak. Also
apart from Ricardo Carvalho none of the defenders seem to be in form.
With Manchester United on a hot streak, Mourinho is looking
for defensive strength and has even contemplated playing Didier Drogba in the
central defense. With his other strikers injured or out of form, the Chelsea
boss will now want to raid the market.
However Pearce insisted that Richards was not for sale.
"I am delighted we have interest in our players, if that is the case,
because it means those players are doing well," he said. "Players
will only leave this club if it benefits the club - full stop. Micah is very happy
here, wants to stay at the football club and we are on a very sound financial
footing."
But come January and
these words may come back to haunt Pearce.
