Klinsmann Rejects US Job, Bradley Appointed Interim Coach E-mail
Written by Staff Writer

Former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann has rejected the offer to manage the US football team after concluding a long discussion with the United States Soccer Federation.

Making his withdrawal official, Klinsmann said, "I have concluded our discussions about the US men's national team programme, and I have withdrawn my name from consideration. I'm not going to go into details about our conversations."

Following his resignation as the German national coach immediately after a successful World Cup, where he guided the team to a surprise third place finish, Klinsmann was widely expected to take over from Bruce Arena after the US Soccer Federation decided not to offer him a new contract.

An American soccer official revealed that Klinsmann was on the verge of signing up for the job, but had to withdraw following differences between the officials over the extent of control of the national team.

The US Soccer Federation will now appoint Chivas USA Coach Bob Bradley on an interim basis. Bradley is considered to be the most successful coach in the Major League Soccer with 124 career wins and was supposed to be the second choice behind Klinsmann.

Bradley has already had a taste of the national team, becoming the assistant manager for U.S. Olympic team. He became the head coach at Chicago Fire in 1998 and won the MLS title in his first season. In 2003 he took over the reigns at Metro Stars but was fired three years later before coming to Chivas USA.

Klinsmann gave his support to the national coach saying, "I certainly want to wish the next coach of the US men's national team much success, and I want to also thank Sunil Gulati, the US Soccer Federation president, for the opportunity to exchange ideas."

Next year is expected to be a busy one for the US national team having confirmed its participation in CONCACAF Gold Cup starting from June 6 and also accepting to play in the Copa America from June 26.
