Indonesia's Youth and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng has sweeped aside criticisms from FIFA about his alleged interventions in the businesses of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI). He adds that whatever sanctions that FIFA decides to impose on him will be nothing out of uncommon.
During a meeting with members from the House of Representatives Commission X which oversees sports and education affairs in the country, Mallarangeng explains that "regarding FIFA sanctions, many countries have received it, including Britain. This is something usual, not extraordinary."
The minister also says that if he is "given sanctions, they will help us find solutions. Many countries subject to FIFA sanctions receive help (from FIFA) instead to find the solutions, and they end up making better achievements." Mallarangeng earned the ire of FIFA officials when he gave warnings to PSSI regarding its current selection process for a replacement for its outgoing chairman. The incoming PSSI chairman shall serve beginning this year up to 2015.
