FA Cup Roundup: Chelsea, United Go Through to Semifinals E-mail
Written by Staff Writer

Both Chelsea and Manchester United won their respective FA Cup replays to book their places in the semifinals of the tournament. However Chelsea's victory sparked a security nightmare when a fan ran onto the pitch to Frank Lampard who was celebrating his side's win.

After a poor first half, Chelsea went ahead in the 55th minute thanks to a stunning left-footed goal from Andriy Shevchenko. Chelsea doubled their lead six minutes later when Shaun Wright-Phillips latched on to a pass from Drogba to smash in a volley past Robinson.

Tottenham pulled one back in the 79th minute when Dimitar Berbatov was brought down in the area by Ricardo Carvalho and Robbie Keane made no mistake to score from the spot. However soon after the final whistle, a Spurs fan ran onto the pitch and confronted England midfielder Frank Lampard.

Police officials said that one person was arrested for encroaching and suspicion of assault while another fan was arrested for encroachment.

Speaking to SkySports Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho took a philosophical view of the incident. "A fan came on to make an aggression to Frank. Frank said the guy was going crazy. I think the security people were not expecting that. He tried to hit Lamps and after that people catch him. Everyone has to do his job, security has to do theirs. Maybe they relaxed with the final whistle. They thought the situation was over and slept a little bit and it was enough for a fast guy to sprint in Lampard's direction."

In the other match played, Manchester United won through a Ronaldo penalty with just 10 minutes remaining. Ronaldo trapped a great through ball from Gabriel Heinze and ran into the box.

Though Jonathan Woodgate tried not to attempt a tackle, he nicked Ronaldo's trailing leg and referee Mike Dean had no option but to point to the spot. The Portuguese winger sent Schwarzer the wrong way to give United the lead. Boro were reduced to 10 men when substitute James Morrison saw red two minutes into injury time.

United now face Watford in the semifinals while Chelsea will play against Blackburn Rovers on 14th April.
