Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta scored the only two goals in a shootout to help lift the Montreal Canadiens past Atlanta, 2-1.

Montreal ended a five-game losing streak, which equaled their longest losing streak last season. The slump came after the Canadiens won their first two games of the season.

The Atlanta loss marked the team’s second straight defeat.

Gionta scored the game’s first goal with a little over two minutes remaining in the first period. The Canadiens held on to a 1-0 lead until Colby Armstrong scored a game-tying basket six minutes into the third.

All and all, Jaroslav Halak blocked 22 shots and made two crucial saves during the shootout.
