P.J. Axelsson scored in the fifth round of a shootout to bring the Boston Bruins past the Ottawa Senators 4-3.

Before that, Tim Thomas displayed a string of amazing saves to keep the Ottawa Senators at bay.  Axelsson went wide and quickly switched to his backhand and hit the puck between Brian Elliot for the game-winner.

Blake Wheeler and Zdeno Chara each had a goal and an assist to extend the Bruins winning streak to four. Chuck Kobasew also scored, while Thomas recorded a total of 19 saves.

Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza, and Nick Foligno recorded one goal apiece. And Elliot had 27 saves but it was not enough to lift the Senators past the Bruins, With this loss, the Senators are now in a four-game losing streak.

Ottawa was actually emerging as the victor in the late stages of the game. Until, with 5:06 remaining on the clock, Ottawa's Antoine Vermette was charged with a double minor for a high-sticking call. The Bruins then capitalized with Kobasew picking up a rebound and converting it into an equalizer.

Boston still had two minutes worth of power play, but they failed to score. The Bruins started the extras session on the power play, as the Senators were called for a penalty and regulation ended.
