After a special league meeting, the NFL is now considering extending its regular season to 18 games.
Commissioner Roger Goodell says that the extended season proposal has gained “overwhelming support” from team owners. He says that it could be instituted by 2012.
“We want to continue to address a variety of issues,” said Goodell. “All of the questions and discussions focused on how we do it that's fan friendly. Fans want less preseason and more regular season.”
Currently, the NFL has a 16-game season.
