President Barack Obama met with the 1985 Super Bowl XX champion Chicago Bears at the White House on Friday, and he called them “the greatest team in NFL history.”
“This is as much fun as I will have as president of the United States, right here,” commented Obama. “This is one of the perks of the job, right here. Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest team in NFL history—the 1985 Chicago Bears.”
Former players, like Gary Fencik, Willie Gault, and Shaun Gayle, were there to meet with the American President, as well as several team officials.
“It is a shame they won't let us stay overnight, but I can guarantee you the ride home is going to be a lot more fun than the ride out,” said Emery Moorehead, a former tight end for the 1985 world champs.
During the Reagan administration, courtesy visits to the White House were made famous. However, the 1985 Bears never had the honor of doing so until now.
“It was a great group of guys,” said former coach Mike Ditka. “We're very proud that you honored us by bringing us here.”
