Written by Sports Know It Alls Staff

The top two tennis players in the world were ousted from the Rogers Masters last Friday, marking two serious upsets in the tournament.

Roger Federer, a two time winner of the Rogers, had an imposing 5-1 lead in the third set before falling to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-6 (7-3).

Later that day, Rafael Nadal squared off against Juan Martin del Potro, who won the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. The win marks del Potro’s second victory over the Spaniard this season.

In the other two quarterfinal matches, Andy Roddick defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4 7-6 (7-4) and Andy Murray, now the top seed of the tourney, won over Nikolay Davydenko 6-2 6-4.

Roddick will face del Potro and Murray will see Tsonga in the semis.

Both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal stayed on track for a final showdown last Thursday as the two recorded victories during the third round of the Rogers Masters.

The top eight seeds of the tournament all reached the quarters.

Federer, ranked number one in the world, won over Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) and Nadal, world number 2, won over Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-2.

Federer now advances to face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who eliminated Gilles Simon in the previous round. On the other hand, Rafa will be facing Juan Martin del Potro, who won over Victor Hanescu.

Nadal is playing for the first time since his stint at the French Open. He took two months off to rest his sore knees.

Other quarterfinals matches include: Andy Murray versus Nikolay Davydenko and Andy Roddick versus Novak Djokovic.

Ben Wallace returns to Detroit E-mail
Written by Sports Know It Alls Staff

Former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Ben Wallace will make his return to the Detroit Pistons, said Joe Dumas—the team’s president of basketball operations.

Wallace, who helped the Pistons win their last title, is coming off a lackluster season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“We are pleased to announce Ben Wallace's return to the Pistons organization,” said Dumas. “Ben played an integral part in the success of the franchise from 2001 to 2006 and we feel there is a role for him on our team this season. His size (6-foot-9, 240 pounds) and experience will provide depth in the front court while his work ethic and commitment to winning will help our club throughout the year”

The 34-year-old had a brief stint with the Chicago Bulls before signing with Cleveland. Last season, he averaged 2.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocked shots, a far cry from his previous seasons with Detroit.
