After more than 28,000 points, Shaquille O’Neal has decided to retire from the game of basketball.
The 7-foot, 350-pound center will not walk away from the game empty handed. In his shelf are six Championships and three finals MVP awards.
The 39-year-old announced his retirement on Twitter last Wednesday after spending most of his last season on the bench due to injuries.
Upon hearing the news, NBA commissioner David Stern had nothing but great things to say about the 19-year-old veteran. “He’s a giant,” said Stern. “In the game, he imposed his will ... for quite a long time. It's been a great run, and we're going to miss him greatly.”
O’Neal retires as the fifth all-time leading scorer in the NBA and 12th in rebounds.

The NBA Finals will pit two interesting teams this year: the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks. Both squads have had their share of criticisms. The Heat are often called opportunists, while the Mavericks have always been associated with choking.
Winning the NBA Finals, which will tip off on Tuesday, would serve as vindication for one squad and tremendous agony to the other.
The Miami Heat did exactly what they were expected to do—dominate. With a roster that has three superstars and no shortage in role players, the Heat seemingly steamrolled through the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
On the other side, Dallas stands behind their main man Dirk Nowitzki, who has a cast of players who aren’t afraid to win. Dallas has silenced many doubters in their playoff run as they swept the Los Angeles Lakers and then showed the Oklahoma City Thunder how to play when the game’s on the line.
It’s going to be a great series.

Dirk Nowitzki is headed for the NBA finals for the second time in his career. His Dallas Mavericks finished off the Oklahoma City Thunder with a 100-96 win, clinching the franchise’s second NBA finals berth.
While his teammates celebrated, Nowitzki showed some indifference. “I was already thinking about the finals,” said the 7-foot German. “This is nice for a day, but we set our goals in October to win it all. We haven't done it yet."
The Mavericks completed a stunning comeback behind Nowitzki’s heroics. With over a minute left in the fourth period, Nowitzki threw a middle-drive three-pointer off an offensive rebound, sending the American Airlines Arena crowd into a frenzy.
The Mavericks now find themselves in a spot where they could really make a difference. The team will be led by their veterans: Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, and—of course—Dirk.
