Houston Rockets center Yao Ming has decided to undergo surgery for his fractured left foot, a decision that will probably cause him to sit out the Rockets’ next season.
The 7-foot-6 china man suffered the injury during Houston’s game 3 Playoff loss against the Los Angeles Lakers.
“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to have surgery on my left foot,” said Yao, who now faces questions if he is durable enough to be a lasting force in the NBA. “I am very grateful to have the support of teammates, fans and friends. I dedicate myself to making a completely successful recovery.”
In his first three seasons, the perennial all-star only missed two games but after that, he has suffered several injuries, including a broken bone in his left foot in 2006, a right knee injury in 2007, and a stress fracture in his left foot.
