Eight-time All-Star guard Vince Carter has been acquired by the Orlando Magic through a multi-player trade with the New Jersey Nets, the teams confirmed on Thursday.
Carter, who was born in Daytona Beach, will join the Eastern Conference champions along with forward Ryan Anderson in exchange for Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee, and Tony Battie.
“Vince [Carter] gives us a veteran, go-to scoring presence, especially at the end of games,” said Otis Smith, general manager of the Orlando Magic. “Our goal remains the same—to win a championship.”
He added, “Any time you can add an All-Star to help you reach your goals, you have to do it. Vince has been a bonafide scorer in this league and we are excited to add both him and Ryan to our team.”
Carter averaged 23.5 points per game for 12 seasons with the Toronto Raptors and the New Jersey Nets.
The 32-year-old will join Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis to complete one of the deadliest starting line-ups in the league.
