Gerald Wallace and LaMarcus Aldridge led a third-quarter charge on Thursday, lifting the Portland Trailblazers past the Los Angeles Lakers, 107-96.
The Trailblazers survived Kobe Bryant’s second consecutive 30-point contest to link a two-game winning streak.
Fresh from halftime, Portland took the lead with a 22-6 run and they never looked back.
Wallace scored 31 points, while Aldridge compiled 28 markers and 10 boards. The Trailblazers took good care of the basketball, turning it over only four times throughout the 48-minute contest. On the other hand, the former NBA champions were forced to surrender possession in 13 occasions.
With the win, Portland improves their record to 5-1, making them the top team in the Western Conference.
Conversely, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a sub-par start to the shortened season. While the come-backing Andrew Bynum and the high-performance of Bryant have been good news for the purple cagers, both have yet to translate to a great win-loss column.
