Marbury waived by New York E-mail

Former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury has been waived by the New York Knicks, ending a turbulent five-year stint with the franchise.

Last Tuesday, the team released a statement making the waive official. However, the Knicks did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

Marbury, who could not lead the Knicks to a single post-season run, is one of the highest paid players in the NBA at $21 million. Yet, he has not played a single game for new coach Mike D’Antoni. The point guard is now eligible for postseason play to any team that signs him—that’s because he was waived before March 1.

Published new reports say that Marbury wants to sign with the NBA’s defending Champions—the Boston Celtics. If he does sign with Boston, he’ll be reunited with a familiar face, his former Minnesota teammate Kevin Garnett.

Marbury hasn’t been playing in the line-up since December 1, when he refused D’Antoni’s offer to start as shooting guard.
