If everything goes as planned, former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury will be wearing a Boston Celtics jersey for the remainder of the season. Not only that, he can play as early as Friday, when the defending champs take the floor against the Indiana Pacers.
Marbury is expected to clear waivers and sign with Boston for $1.3 million. The point guard has yet to play a regular season game since January 11, 2008. However, he says he’s confident that he’ll be able to help the green cagers.
In an interview with the New York Times, Marbury was asked about his role with the Celtics. He responded, “I’ll just let my game speak for itself.”
Marbury reached a buy-out agreement with his former team, the New York Knicks. Stephon claims to have met-up with some of the Boston players already. He is scheduled for a press statement in Boston on Friday, and he will be in uniform against Indiana.
Finals MVP Paul Pierce and NBA All-Star Ray Allen, Marbury’s future teammates, spoke highly of the talented point guard.
“Once upon a time he was a talented player,” stated Boston Head Coach Doc Rivers in an interview with The Boston Globe. “We hope he can help us. So we'll see.”
