Confetti rained down on Kobe Bryant as he dribbled out the last seconds of the seventh game. Despite Bryant’s horrific scoring night, the Los Angeles Lakers managed to pull out a victory over the Boston Celtics, 83-79.
Bryant shot a woeful 6-for-24 from the field but the Lakers managed to win its 16th NBA championship. For Bryant, it is his fifth NBA championship with the team and his second Finals MVP trophy.
Ron Artest was the unlikely hero for Los Angeles as he repeatedly grabbed offensive rebounds and did a fantastic defensive job on Paul Pierce. He poured in 20 points for the Lakers.
“Well, first all I want to thank everybody in my hood,” commented Artest after the game. “I definitely want to thank my doctors ... my psychiatrist, she really helped me relax a lot.”
Pierce led the Celtics with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin Garnett scored 17.
