Iverson linked to the New York Knicks E-mail

Donnie Walsh, the New York Knicks President, said that there was “no time frame” on a decision whether to sign Allen Iverson or not. Walsh says that he has not been approached the Knicks team management about possibly signing with the franchise.

Walsh said that he would not offer Iverson the mid-level exception. The team would most likely offer the former MVP a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum. However, the president says the team is not ready to make decisions until he speaks with Iverson personally.

There are ups and downs to this deal. One positive thing about getting Iverson would be his lower salary rate. He would also kick-start a struggling team.

“Some nights their [the Knicks] energy has been down,” commented Mike Breen, the New York Knicks play-by-play announcer. “One thing you can count on with Allen Iverson is that he'll play with competitive fire. The other guys might see that and step up.”

Breen also said that Iverson will be a fan attraction, making him a valuable commodity on the court and on the ticket stands.

On the downside, if you sign Iverson, he will not be willing to take a role player spot.

“If you sign him, you're giving him the keys to the car,” explained Breen. “He's shown he doesn't want to accept any role less than that.”

Apart from the Knicks, Iverson has also been linked with the Orlando Magic, the Charlotte Bobcats, and the Miami Heat.
