Atlanta Braves win over Pittsburgh Pirates E-mail

David Ross doubled home three runs during the first inning last Friday, kicking of a 7-3 of the Atlanta Braves over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It was the third consecutive victory for Atlanta, but had to wait through a long delay to finish the game.

The game as delayed for 81 minutes due to a thunderstorm, and persistent showers. With one out at the top of the ninth, a heavy downpour came once again and the game was delayed again for 70 minutes.

When play was resumed, Jonny Venters struck out Jeff Clement and Bobby Crosby in eight pitches.

Ross’s homer capped off a four-run first inning. Chipper Jones then singled a run in the second and his base hit in the sixth sent two more. The Braves took a 7-1 lead in seven innings.

Derek Lowe pitched in the rain to get the win.
