Market Teixeira delivered two solo homers last Friday as the New York Yankees extended their winning streak to seven games in a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
The Yankees were expecting to face Cliff Lee, a pitcher that the franchise wanted to acquire but he was traded to Texas before the game.
Teixeira scored his homers during the first and ninth innings, and also scored on a two-run triple provided by Robinson Cano during a four-run sixth.
New York extended its lead in the American League East to three games. Trailing behind by three games are the Tampa Bay Rays, who snapped its six-game winning streak earlier in the evening.
Phil Hughes notched the win as he gave up only six hits in seven innings.
David Pauley played in place of Lee for the Mariners after only having three relief appearances for the season. He gave up only two hits through five-plus innings and gave up one earned run.
