Russell Martin, the Los Angeles Dodgers catcher, was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Wednesday due to a hip injury, which he got during the team’s game against the San Diego Padres last Tuesday.

He was attempting to tag a fly ball to center field during the second inning, but he could not beat the one-hop throw of Chris Denorfia and was tagged out by Nick Hundley.

After an MRI, the doctors found that Martin had a tear of the labrum in his right hip.

Los Angeles has recalled catcher A.J. Ellis to fill in Martin’s spot until he heals from the injury.

The two-time all-star has recorded five homers and 26 RBIs through 97 games.
