Griffey falls asleep, misses the game E-mail

Ken Griffey Jr., outfielder of the Seattle Mariners, was found asleep in the clubhouse last week as the team missed a pinch-hitter.

Anonymous sources say that Griffey slept in during a game, while manager Don Wakamatsu needed a pinch-hitter for catcher Rob Johnson.

Reports say that Wakamatsu was ambiguous when asked about Griffey, but unnamed teammates said that the manager just didn’t want to disturb the 40-year-old.

Sources say that Griffey fell asleep in the clubhouse after coming back for his jacket in the fifth.

“He doesn't sleep well at night, he's away from his family, he's comfortable in the clubhouse,” explained an unnamed player. “They could have awakened him.”
