Erik Bedard, the Red Sox pitcher, was given legal papers before taking the mound in Boston on Tuesday.

The papers were delivered by Tom Cabral on behalf of Courtney Roberts, who is suing Bedard for child support.

“The Red Sox were very cooperative,” Cabral told the New York Post. “They asked me if I could serve these tomorrow because he was starting tonight. My position was, my client wants it served today, and that's what I have to do.”

Bedard started against the Baltimore Orioles as the team tried to preserve a two-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League.

According to reports, Bedard was very cooperative. He signed all the papers upon receiving them.
