Last Wednesday, Tiger Woods made a successful return to competitive golf after winning against Australian Brendan Jones in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.
It’s Woods’ first tournament since competing in the 2008 US Open last June. He spent eight months in the recovery room as he suffered from a torn ligament in his left knee.
However, the world’s number 1 golfer did not show signs of rust last Wednesday. Woods birdied his first hole, one if his three birdies in the round. He had one eagle and three bogeys to finish up the first round.
“I hit the ball well starting out,” Woods told the tournament’s official Web site. “Hit a couple of loose irons in the middle part of the round, but other than that, I really hit it pretty good all day.”
The match ended at the 16th hole with Woods up by three, a lead Jones could no longer overcome with the final two holes.
In the next round, Tiger will be matched up against South African Tim Clark.
