Tiger Woods has never been analyzed to a greater extent than he is now, especially with the former world number one now struggling in both his career and private life. Neither has there been any other golfer in history that had commanded more media attention than Woods who is now recovering from his recent extra-marital fiasco and separation from his wife.
Gregg Steinberg, a renowned sports psychologist, says during an interview with the Daily News that “the first peg is the new swing coach,” adding that “it can take upwards of six months to two years before it kicks in. The problem is paralysis by analysis. You start over thinking, and the biggest problem under pressure is you start to think too much. You start trying too hard. Under pressure he can’t let go.”
Steinberg also believes that Woods has lost his feeling of invincibility with his recent troubles out of the green. He explains that “he’s come to realize he’s not superhuman,” adding that “now he’s in denial, trying to buffer stress and boost confidence.”
