Tiger Woods has announced that he is coming back to golf after recovering from a knee injury that has sidelined him during the PGA Tour’s last tournament. The world’s number one will make his return in next week’s Accenture World Match Play Championship, where he is the defending champion.
Woods will be competing in a pool composed of 64 of the world’s top golfers, who have expressed their warm sentiments for Tiger’s return.
“We’ve missed him. It’s good to see him back,” commented Ernie Els, who hopes to dethrone Woods from his number one ranking.
On the other hand, veteran golfer Steve Stricker said, “It's only a good thing for our tour when he's playing.”
Others highlighted concerns for Woods, making sure his physically ready for the tournament. “Thirty-six holes a day is a lot of golf to play but I'm sure he's ready if he's coming back,” said Scott McCarron, on the last two days of the tournament where he must play two 18-hole rounds. Els added, “I’m sure he’ll show a little rust.”
Reports suggest that fitness is the last area Woods worked on in preparation for the tournament.
Will the world’s number one show up in top shape? That remains to be seen. All we can do is wait and see.
