Ryder Cup gets delayed E-mail

The Ryder Cup was delayed by seven hours, prompting organizers to change the format of the event—placing the US team against the European team.

Last Friday, play began as scheduled, but it was delayed by persistent rainfall that made the Celtic Manor Resort course unplayable. Golf resumed about seven hours after the rain, which made it too late to finish the Friday schedule.

Organizers said that there needs to be major adjustments in order to finish the tournament on schedule, including foursome matches for Saturday and Sunday.

The Ryder Cup could finish with 12 singles matches, which is the norm.
