Former US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy leads the PGA Tour’s opener in Hawaii. The Australian led the board after a first round six-under-par 67 performance in the Mercedes Championship.
Ogilvy recorded three birdies on the front and back nines at the Kapalua Plantation Course to gain a one-shot advantage over Ernie Els, Kenny Perry, and Johnson Wagner.
Els was on track to take the lead after he notched a four under pars in his first six holes and six under pars after his 11th hole. But the South African fumbled in the 15th hole where he fell with a bogey. On the other hand, US Ryder Cup standout Perry joined the chasing group with an impressive birdie on the 18th hole. Wagner scored an eagle on the par-five finale.
Following the ranks are Davis Love III, Steve Lowery, Sean O'Hair and Ryuji Imada, whom are in a four-way tie at fourth with four-under.
World number one Tiger Woods is yet to return to the tour. The standout is currently recovering from a knee surgery, which caused him to miss most of last season after he won the US Open in June.
