The returning world number one, Tiger Woods, was defeated by South African Tim Clark in the second round of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona, last Thursday.

Clark moved into the last 16 4&2, stopping the momentum of Woods, who was competing after an eight-month hiatus.

Tiger had not played competitive golf since the 2008 US Open, which he won. Afterwards, the Nike endorser had reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

In related news, Englishman Oliver Wilson won a crucial game against Anthony Kim, ranked number 11 in the world rankings.

Fellow Englishman Paul Casey also notched a victory over Australia’s Mathew Goggin. Ross Fisher ended the streak of Pat Perez, an American who defeated Padraig Harrington in the first round.

Lastly, Lee Westwood—another Englishman—was eliminated by Stewart Cink.
