Murray upsets Federer in Abu Dhabi Semis E-mail
Written by Sports Know It Alls Staff

Last Thursday, world number four Andy Murray defeated world number two Roger Federer during their playoff match in Abu Dhabi. The win will take Murray to the World Tennis Championship.

The Briton recovered from the loss of the opening set to dominate his Swiss opponent. Murray eventually secured a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 victory.

At the start of the deciding set, Murray looked defeated at 4-1. The score even made it to 6-3 in favor of Federer. But later on, Federer over shot a forehand that gave Murray momentum to snatch the set.

Murray displayed a buffet of punishing shots that obviously confused Federer. These shots eventually gave him a comfortable lead, as the audience in the Zayed Sports City arena was treated to a surprising outcome.

Murray who appeared to be suffering pain in several points of his back says that his condition won’t affect his preparations for upcoming tournaments. “I think it's just that I haven't played a match in six or seven weeks. Today was pretty physical, I did a lot of running, so I'm sure it's just a bit stiff,” Murray said in a related interview.

Murray attested: "Every time you play Roger it's a great challenge, we've had a lot of close matches in the past. I've got the better of him on a few occasions but in the big one we played, at the U.S. Open final, he beat me pretty badly. Hopefully I'll maybe get him in a Grand Slam one day."

Ronaldo dismisses rumors about Madrid transfer E-mail
Written by Sports Know It Alls Staff

Cristiano Ronaldo recently dismissed rumors of links to Spanish team Real Madrid, giving Manchester United a sigh of relief.

The European Footballer of the Year has recently been linked to a transfer to Madrid, which was fueled by a speculation that Manchester and Madrid have arranged deals for Ronaldo’s eventual sale.

"There's always speculation, not just about me, but about the future of players all around the world," Ronaldo mentioned in a related interview. “People were speaking about me this summer but that was normal because of what I did during the season.”

Ronaldo asserted, “What people are saying now is not true. Who says that is a liar because I am happy at the club, I want to stay here. I feel at home here. I feel very happy here.”

The wing man scored 42 goals in the last seasons of the Premier League and the Champion’s League. He is a crucial piece of the team, if Manchester ever hopes to regain the coveted English title.

Celtics extend the winning streak to 16 E-mail
Written by Sports Know It Alls Staff

Last night, the Boston Celtics extended their winning streak to 16 behind the outstanding performance of Kevin Garnett, who scored crucial baskets in the fourth quarter to keep the Atlanta Hawks at bay.

The former MVP scored 10 of his 18 points in the final quarter. Garnett’s performance, along with Joe Johnson’s missed free throw, lifted the Celtics past the Hawks 88-85 to cap 16 straight wins for the green men.

After Joe Johnson missed free throws that would have tied the game, Ray Allen made two foul shots that left 0.7 seconds on the clock. This secured a franchise-best 24-2 win-loss card for the defending champs.

“I told KG to take us home down the stretch,” Celtics guard Rajon Rondo narrated in a post-game interview. “I said make something happen. He said no problem.”

Despite a lackluster start from Garnett, the Celtics managed to keep pace with the younger hawks throughout the game. “It means we’re playing well,” Garnett reacts. “We want to play championship basketball. That’s what we’re building up to. Our goal is to win a championship.”

The Celtics will be competing against the Chicago Bulls next Friday. If they win, they will extend their winning streak to 17, which reminds us of a Chicago Bull team that dominated the 1995-1996 regular season behind the leadership of the legendary Michael Jordan.
