The University of Tennessee recently received notice of allegations from the NCAA regarding alleged violations during men’s basketball and football events. These include phone calls being granted to potential recruits and contact between prospective student-athletes and head coach Bruce Pearl. The coach was also charged for non-compliance of guidelines to monitor assistant coaches in the basketball program.
Meanwhile, the NCAA alleges that former football head coach Lane Kiffin also failed to comply with guidelines to monitor the activities of his assistant coaches, as well as his staff making illegal phone calls to student-athlete prospects.
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton says that his “institution has operated in complete cooperation with the NCAA since April 2009 as they have pursued their investigation.” Hamilton adds that they “take these allegations seriously and most items noted in this document have already been reported broadly.” The University has until May 21 to respond to NCAA regarding the allegations and shall appear before the Committee on Infractions in June.
