The NCAA announced that it will be banning Coach Bruce Pearl (former head coach of Tennessee men’s basketball) from taking a college job in the next three years.

In the next three years, Pearl will be prevented from getting involved in the NCAA. Teams that want to hire him need to come up with an explanation, which will be screened by the league. Pearl’s assistant coaches will also get one-year bans.

Based on an investigation by the league, Pearl hosted potential recruits in his home—which is strongly prohibited by the NCAA. In addition to that, Pearl tried to hide his violations and even tried to encourage other members of the athletic department to do the same thing.

“Head coaches bear primary responsibility for monitoring all aspects of their programs and promoting an atmosphere for compliance,” explained the NCAA committee. “It is also presumed that head coaches know or should know of violations in their programs, particularly when the violations occur over an extended period of time.”

The university was issued a public reprimand and a two-year probation.
